When my clients first purchased this home, it was a diamond deep in the rough. We created a master plan for the whole house, and the owners have been busily transforming it piece by piece. The front porch was the first project to be tackled. The plant overgrowth was beaten back and the 70's porch and addition were removed from the front of the house. The gracious porch now matches the original style of the house, adds a second floor balcony, and accommodates the various level changes required by an existing under porch fruit cellar and garage.

Overlooking rolling hills and grazing sheep, this amazing farmhouse was originally built in the late 1800's. In working on this project, I felt a great responsibility to create an addition that would not detract from the home's character. Only six feet and seven inches wide, the existing kitchen was the main reason for the remodel. The main floor of the addition is a gracious kitchen with an eating area. The second floor of the addition contains a TV room and sleeping porch.

This Irvington home is one that my husband and I had been walking by and wanting to rehabilitate for years. I was very excited to be hired by the new owners to design the remodel. The house had been sorely neglected over the years and needed repairs throughout. At the back of the house, an addition contains a breakfast nook with an eating booth and a small porch. The existing front porch was demolished and replaced with a much more substantial and period appropriate design.

This project was designed in two parts. The first project remodeled the kitchen and replaced an old breakfast nook with a new structure which is more in keeping with the home's craftsman style. The second project converted the attic to legally finished space adding two bedrooms, a large bathroom, and a very gracious sitting area at the second floor stair landing. In order to remodel the second floor, the stairway needed to be widened. The need to borrow space from the dining room gave us an excuse to remove the existing poor quality dining room built-in and replace it with a well-designed hutch.

Designed for an eccentric painter, this art studio is large enough to accommodate paintings as sizable as twelve feet x twenty feet. A long slot in the floor provides a means of moving the artwork between the second and main floor. The second floor studio has a mezzanine office space and north-facing clerestory windows. The basement is used to store artwork.

This cramped kitchen in a Tudor style house was literally bursting at the seams.  The new kitchen expands into the existing eating nook and opens up to the adjacent dining room giving the chef some much needed elbow room.

The original bathroom in this 1914 bungalow had been sorely abused.  All of the original fixtures had been torn out and in their place a fiberglass tub/shower insert was added which overlapped the window, and a new sink and toilet were crammed together along the same wall. 

For the redesign, a reclaimed J, or corner tub, allowed us to fit both the bathtub and toilet comfortably along the same wall.  The floor to ceiling linen closet was replaced with a built-in “high-boy” cabinet with deep drawers for towels and a sliding, narrow compartment for much used items such as lotion and shaving cream.  The tile and paint colors of this bathroom were designed in a historic color palette compatible with the vintage of the house.
